電光調Q是基于電光晶體的電光效應作為Q開關的器件。電光調Q晶體的原理是當晶體在z軸方向加電壓后,由于晶體的雙折射,沿x方向振動的偏振光進入晶體后將分解為沿x’方向和y’方向振動的兩個線偏振光。也就是說當在晶體上加半波電壓后,往返通過晶體的線偏振光,其振動方向相對改變90°。對于未加電壓的晶體來說,往返通過晶體的線偏振光振動方向不變。
